Music therapy

Music therapy is a unique application of music to enhance an individual’s personal life by creating positive changes in human behaviour. It utilises music as a development tool for social/emotional, cognitive/learning and perceptual motor areas.

Music is effective because it is a non-verbal form of communication, it is a natural reinforcer, it is immediate in time and provides motivation for practicing non-musical skills. Most importantly, it is a successful medium because almost everyone responds positively to at least some kind of music.

Music therapy can assist with specific goals in literacy, numeracy, communication, social skills and motor skills. Music therapy is provided 2 days per week with all students in attendance for their weekly class session.
